Quintessential San Francisco Apartment Interiors

Q Interior Design prides itself on incorporating your existing furniture, art, and accessories with new items that compliment your style and reflect that “city look” you want to achieve.

Every city has a pulse that is reflected in its neighborhoods, architecture, restaurants and iconic places.  San Francisco’s pulse is unique and unlike that of Manhattan, LA, Atlanta, or Chicago.

Many San Franciscans are city dwellers living in apartments found in old Victorians and Redwood Row Houses from the late 1800’s to art deco buildings built in the 30’s.  Depending on the area of the city, apartments are often found in converted Craftsman and Spanish Mission Style buildings built in the 20’s.  The classic building architectures, hardwood floors, original tiles, and city or bay-views create the perfect backdrop for the “Quintessential San Francisco Apartment.”

Q specializes in working with you to develop your personal design style and combining that style with our vision and courage.   Together we can create the “feel” that you want to project.

Below are examples of San Francisco apartment interior styles:

Here are a few simple ideas that may inspire you:

The Radiator

The simple task of removing the cover of a common radiator, then painting that radiator a stylish charcoal gray or vintage pewter color, can turn a simple room into a cozy design space.

The Custom Photograph

Designing a room with a large piece of custom art photography can reduce the cost of investing in numerous art pieces, needed to “complete” a room. Nothing says “urban modern” like a 4’x5’ black & white framed photograph, hanging or leaning against a bedroom wall.  After deciding which part of the city you want to capture for your quintessential look, you may want to attend the photo shoot and actually be a part of the captured scene.

Wine Cubes

Utilizing a wall to store your drinkable wines in modular pine cubes is a charming salute to our love of Napa while creating a warm and welcoming entertaining vibe.

The Chalk Board

Hanging a framed blackboard to chalk your dinner party menu is unique, interesting and inexpensive.   Design ideas are everywhere.  It’s not always necessary to recreate the wheel.  You could even “copycat” Marlowe’s large hanging "studio roller" of brown butcher paper that hangs on the wall at 4th & Brannan, to announce their menu specials.  Notice the things you find that are cool and unique when out in the city and make them a part of your apartment design.

The Map

Incorporating maps of the city or places you’ve been or countries you want to visit tell a story about you and create a strong point of interest when displayed in any room.  Whether the maps are vintage or current, a framed map located in a place of prominence will compliment any urban space.
